Back in 2010, when Gareth & Andrew first met, we’d often joke after a long day at work:

Back in 2010, when Gareth & Andrew first met, we’d often joke after a long day at work:
“Let’s pack it all in and open a coffee shop.”
Fast forward 10 years and life looked very different. We’d adopted our son, Riley, and family life had completely changed. With Riley having additional needs, life could be challenging, and coffee shops became our little escape — somewhere to recharge, talk and get ready for whatever came next.
The only problem? We usually found ourselves heading to Sheffield or Leeds for the kind of coffee shops we loved. We always felt Barnsley was missing something.
Eventually, Gareth managed to convince Andrew to let him give it a go. The idea was simple: create the kind of coffee shop we wanted to visit, right here in Barnsley.
It also gave us the flexibility to be there for Riley before and after school — while giving Gareth somewhere to work, meet people and, importantly, have some adult conversation!
And so, on 26th February 2017, we opened the doors to Old George for the very first time.
What started as a joke between the two of us became something very real.

From brewing the perfect cup to creating latte art, or creating your favourite Old George dish, our team is dedicated to providing you with a memorable experience every time you visit Old George.
